How the rate is built
Most SBA 7(a) loans are variable, adjusting with the base rate. Fixed-rate options exist with different caps. Your actual rate depends on the lender and your file.
Terms depend on the use of funds
Real estate typically gets the longest terms, equipment is often tied to its useful life, and working capital and business acquisitions are usually shorter than real estate. Longer terms lower the payment but increase total interest.
Fees to ask about
Ask for a written list: SBA guarantee fee (and whether it's financed), packaging or closing fees, third-party costs like appraisals, and any prepayment penalty on longer-term loans.

What is the current SBA interest rate?
There's no single rate. It's the lender's base rate plus a spread within SBA maximums. Check SBA.gov for the current caps.
Are SBA loans fixed or variable?
Both exist; many 7(a) loans are variable. Ask the lender how and when the rate adjusts.
Can I prepay an SBA loan?
Often yes, but some longer-term loans carry a prepayment fee in the early years. Confirm with the lender.
